Bright Wood to Close Bend Facility

(February 17, 2006) Bright Wood Corporation is permanently closing its Bend facility located at 30 Century Drive within the next 60 days. Dallas Stovall, Bright Wood’s CEO and president, made the announcement to the Bend site’s 131 associates on Friday, February 17.

“The Bend plant is not closing because of poor performance,” Stovall said. “This is a cost saving move, and with the extra capacity in our other Central Oregon sites, this will help ensure the financial health of Bright Wood.”

The Bend facility is the smallest of the wood product manufacturer’s three Oregon operations. Production will shut down on May 5. “It is our hope that we can transfer all the people from our Bend factory to fill idle capacity at our Madras and Redmond facilities,” Stovall said. “Going back to when I started at Bright Wood in 1983, we have never had a layoff. We are working to avoid one this time by transferring most, if not all, Bend people.”

Bright Wood purchased Bend Wood Products in January 1999 and renamed it Bend Bright Wood. The Madras-based company employs 1,450 associates in Central Oregon and is the second largest private employer in the tri-county area. Founded in 1960, Bright Wood’s major product lines include wood window and door parts along with mouldings.
